Discovering Hidden Gem: My Perfect One-Day Escape

Looking for a peaceful yet adventurous day out in Calicut? Let me introduce you to two
beautiful hidden gems that are perfect for a one-day, stress-free escape. First, a breathtaking park that costs only ₹40 to enter—and every rupee is worth it. I’ll reveal the names and locations of these spots at the end of this article, so keep reading. The moment you enter, the sounds of chirping birds and chattering monkeys fill the air. It’s an immediate escape—a feeling of utter freedom from the crowded world beyond the gates. Countless pathways weave through the forest, each opening up to another beautiful scene. And wait until you see the waterfalls—they're absolutely captivating. A walk through this forest is a beautiful adventure. You’ll trek across hard rocks, and from some spots, catch glimpses of a calm pond. The water is clean and comes from above, making it tempting to jump in for a swim. Every part of this place has a story and a unique feeling. The air is fresh and calm, making it incredibly relaxing and refreshing. The true highlight of this park is its incredible biodiversity. It’s home to tons of unique plants and tree species, many of which you may have never encountered before. Walking through this natural haven allows you to explore and appreciate wonders you’ve likely never seen in your life. It’s not just a visit—it’s an eye-opening experience that makes you more aware of the amazing variety of species in our world. Another wonderful feature is the countless varieties of butterflies that flutter throughout the park. For the truly adventurous, there's a special restricted area within the park. Entry requires prior permission, and a guide must accompany you to explore this thrilling zone. Please note that certain parts of the park are restricted to visitors. These areas are the rightful home of indigenous tribal communities, and access is respectfully limited to protect their privacy and preserve their cultural heritage. We must honor their space and are not permitted to enter. Hiking through this dense forest plays tricks on your imagination; every rustle in the leaves feels like it could be a tiger, lion, or elephant lurking nearby. Of course, it's just an illusion, but it certainly adds a thrill to the adventure! Since the park spans a vast 111.4 acres, there are several well-placed rest areas—a necessity after all that walking. But every step is worth it, as the trail concludes at the summit of a hill, revealing a breathtaking waterfall. The other beautiful place is just a 1.25 km walk from the first location, but it offers a completely different experience. This spot is also set within a forest and features an adventurous jungle walk. The key difference is that it's a river area. It has an eco-friendly bridge and narrow pathways to explore. However, you should be aware of leeches, as they are common in this area. One of the most soothing parts of the walk is the sound of water echoing through the trees. It's like listening to nature’s own gentle melody. In the river, there are rocks to sit on where you can dip your legs into the water and play. The water is so transparent that you can see fishes swimming under your feet. They gently nibble at the dirt, acting like an unpaid massage therapist it’s a truly unique and relaxing experience. The view of this place is like heaven; it resembles the kind of stunning scenery you usually only see in paintings. It was the first time I had visited such a beautiful and lovely place it truly felt like heaven on Earth.
These two tourism places are located in the Calicut district, within the Thamarasery forest range in Kakkavayal: Vanaparvam Biodiversity Park and Kakkad Eco-Tourism. A common feature of both places is that everyone, regardless of age, can enjoy them with a lot of fun. Since they are relatively unfamiliar, there are fewer people. Therefore, visitors can swing on the river and enjoy themselves without a crowd. Being an eco-conscious haven, you won’t find any plastic pollution here; both the river and trails are kept clean and pristine, protecting the natural beauty and wildlife. One of the most common sights here is groups of school children on nature camps. They visit to explore the greenery, learn about the environment, and experience adventure firsthand. The monsoon season transforms these places, casting them in a different mood. The forest becomes especially attractive during this period, with waterfalls and rivers flowing beautifully. However, it's important to be aware of slippery trails and the risk of overflowing water. This makes it one of the most beautiful times to visit, but also one where caution is essential, as conditions can become dangerous in moments. Both of these green paradises are perfect for photography. You’ll find endless beauty here from birds perched among ancient trees to the serene flow of the river each moment worthy of a picture. There’s no better way to enjoy these hidden gems than with friends and family. Trust me, shared moments here become unforgettable memories.
